My name is Bryce Oprandi and I am a junior at the University of Mary Washington. This page is to be used for ENGL 202: Writing About Medicine.

My time as a technician in the physical therapy department at OrthoVirginia has been a rewarding experience filled with a variety of challenges. Dealing with different challenges every day created a very dynamic workplace, and I enjoyed supporting these individuals in their road to recovery. However, based on my experience, I’ve identified a preference for working with athletes or people who are dedicated and determined to improving their physical health. Their competitive drive and determination align with my own interests, making it more enjoyable and engaging. Furthermore, I’ve developed an attraction for the fast-paced atmosphere of urgent care facilities, particularly those that deal with walk-in patients. This realization has affected my future career goals, directing me toward options that are more closely aligned with urgent care facilities. My time at OrthoVirginia has not only strengthened my desire to help others, but it has also led me down a path where I can combine this desire with the daily problem-solving challenges of urgent care, particularly with an emphasis on working with athletes or those committed to physical improvement.

Growing up in a household where education was highly valued, I was taught that pursuing an education and attending college were not only options but expectations. My intellectual journey, which turned me into the thinker I am today, is a direct result of my early experiences, competitive personality, and need for constant learning and growth.
My family raised me in an environment that emphasized the importance of learning and academic performance. I was fortunate to have supportive parents who understood the value of education. Witnessing the accomplishments of my siblings, all of whom share the same values as I when discussing education, inspired me. Their accomplishments established the competitive drive to do better in all of us.
My attitude to learning was heavily influenced by my family’s competitive spirit as well as my own personality. Whether I was competing with my brothers in academics or competing on various sports teams, the desire for success and perfection was ingrained in my personality. This competitive drive has fueled my desire to excel not only in academics but in all aspects of life.
Throughout my school years, I discovered an appreciation for hands-on learning and interactive activities. Traditional classroom settings sometimes left me available to zone out and miss important information. I thrive in surroundings that present challenges and allow me to actively participate in problem-solving. My preference for more active learning has helped shape my academic experience, encouraging me to seek out opportunities that match my learning style.
Reflecting on my childhood and academic background, I’m drawn to occupations that provide ongoing challenges and various opportunities each day. I am very intrigued about the potential of working in a field where I will be exposed to different tasks and patients on a regular basis. The unpredictable events of a workday capture my interest, by offering me the excitement and motivation I need to remain engaged and to preform at my best.
When I interviewed my classmate, Noah, I observed some interesting similarities. Noah, like me, is a goal-oriented individual who values discipline and competitiveness. We have a shared approach to motivation and reaching our goals. While Noah is highly disciplined and goal-oriented, I like the excitement of taking on new tasks and experiencing as many different things as possible in many intellectual aspects of my life.
Continuing my college experience, I am looking for an environment that will both challenge me intellectually and allow me to further develop my interest in hands-on, interactive learning. I want to use my competitive attitude and goal-oriented approach to succeed in whatever is thrown my way, not only in college, but after I join the workforce. Ultimately, I hope to find a career that matches my interests and provides a platform for continuous growth and excitement. To me, college is more than simply a stepping stone. It is an opportunity to sharpen my intellectual skills and assist in designing a future in which I can utilize my skills in the best way possible.
